Good ol' King Mudsok.
Reposting an old favorite character from my story idea about the underground people,
A fair and kind-hearted leader, though one who would definitely dislike being labeled as BULKY.

#Scrawloween2020 Day03: WEREWOLF
#Scrawloween Day 3: WEREWOLF
This year for Inktober, I'm also following The Cartoon Art Museum prompt list jumping around the two lists, pulling and revising some old stuff, and of course, creating new illustrations.

#Inktober2020 Day01: Cat
Well, October is here already. That means I'm about to attempt to do the month-long challenge known as Inktober for the 6th year.
This year, a slightly different approach; I'll be doing new character designs and using the prompt list of words from The Cartoon Art Museum's Scrawl-O-Ween for inspiration. (See the prompt list way down below.)

Inktober 2017 • day 26 • Trick or Treatin' Monster
Inktober 2017: Day26
Trick or Treatin' Monsta
I felt like doing a big goofy monster trick or treating on Halloween day.
I have to admit, I think a lot of this goofy walking stance (and definitely its feet) is inspired by Mad Magazine's Don Martin. Don Martin was the king of goofy drawing when I was a kid. It was Martin's cartoons, Sergio Aragonés randomly gutter placed doodles, and Antonio Prohías' Spy vs. Spy that were the must-read pages whenever I bought Mad Magazine.

Inktober 2017 • day 25 • Little Vampire
Inktober 2017: Day25
Little Vampire
Did a similar version of this character for a trick or treat bag several years ago. I liked the pose and decided to add a top hat. I have always admired the idea of creating Tiny Monsters, this little guy would probably be the leader.

Inktober 2017 • day 23 • Candy Corn Goblins
Inktober 2017: Day23
Candy Corn Goblins
The only thing that haunted me as a child was getting a bag of candy corn on Halloween. It has to be to most awful candy out there, far surpassing Easter Peeps and white chocolate. So it makes sense, something must be taking these triangular nightmares . . . Cause I certainly wasn't eating them!

Inktober 2017: Day22
Morburt, the Mossman
This character is one of the guardians of the Moss Fields. Not a real warrior; basically they try to look intimidating . . . But are often way too friendly to ever be in a fight.

Inktober 2017: Day12
The Pumpkinhead Kid
I've created a rough draft of a picture book story featuring this character. This is the 6th Halloween picturebook story I have written. I think I'm obsessed with Halloween!
I was so busy around the time I was drawing this character. I didn't have time to post it and I left it laying on the scanner. It was weeks before I realized I never finished posting the drawing.
This is the one that almost got away . . .

Daily Quick Sketch: Even More Monstas and Bunnies sketch stuff
I've been sketching this image on and off for a few months now. Another image for my grouping of Monstas and Bunnies, (I'm thinking of switching to Monstas & Bunny instead, since I've been using the same bunny in all the images.)

Daily Quick Sketch: Old LB pencil sketch found, redrawn and colored
Did a quick color comp of one of my oldest characters, LB, based on an old sketch that fell out of a sketchbook. I don't remember why I drew LB in this pose, but I enjoyed doing a quick image of the character again. It's been awhile since I drew LB. Still one of my favorites.
Note: this is a new color scheme I'm using for the character. The major difference is that the bumps on his nose are no longer blue. I'm thinking the bumps look better all the same color, even though doing this ruins one of the story ideas I had roughed out years ago.

Inktober 2016: Hidden (#06 of 31)
Today's 6th Inktober 2016 image is based on the word: HIDDEN.
Not much to explain on this one. Just keeping the jokes gross, dark and uncomfortable . . . (because those are the drawings that are getting the most attention! Go figure.)

I will admit I do have a bit of hatred for the Elf on the Shelf. He just seems to be the most obnoxious and shady elf in the world. Glad I put him in his place with this cartoon . . .

Daily Quick Sketch: More Monstas and Bunnies sketch stuff
Had this sketch laying around since the end of last year. The sketch was an idea I had envisioned and quickly jotted down on paper before forgetting it. It helped that it was the holiday season, which inspires this type of work. Looking at the image now, a half-year later, there are many changes needed to improve the composition. Mostly the sizing of everything is off. The characters and the tree need to be bigger with less emphasis/detail to the background.
I would like to create a calendar of this subject one day. This one would be December's image. I know the subject and images would work well, but I'm still undecided on what style medium I would want to use for final images. Time will tell.

Wait - What? #1: The Office Monster?
Every once in awhile, I sketch something that I have no idea what it is or why I drew it. Can't explain why this happens. Probably a result of playing around or just looking to create something different. So this is a new category for the blog that I'll label as "Wait - What?"
A pencil marker image of whatever this is . . . |
This guy was in an old sketch book, I do remember drawing it . . . but I can't explain why. A robot head, tentacles and it seems to be wearing some office attire. Maybe an alien disguised as an accountant? Maybe it's a coffee robot? Or some traveling volcano simulator?
I don't know . . . your guess is good as mine.

UPDATE! Monsters and Bunnies: Hopscotch
UPDATE!: Background added
Finally added the much-needed background to this image. This is the image that will be used for my promotional postcard during the approaching SCBWI conference.
BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL POST THAT WAS CREATED ON 01-14-2015
UPDATE: Color!
2014 was a terrible year, mentally and physically. For over 9 months I dealt with a frozen right shoulder, my drawing arm, making every action and motion painful and irritating . . .
Even though that shoulder is still not 100%, 2015 is going to change for the better.
I plan to be more committed to art projects like this for 2015.
Exactly 7 months ago, I posted this image on the blog as a pencil sketch only. Then over the recent holidays, I added color to the sketch. It is one of a set of six images for "Monsters and Bunnies".
Because these images were all done at various times, with different techniques and styles, I intend to redo the entire set of 6 images again. Only this time, the style will remain the same for all of the images, along with a more limited pallet of colors. The style for all six images will pretty much follow the style of the image below . . .

Here's another of the 6 images I've been working on for the past several months; these images feature monsters and bunnies. I've been too busy lately to finish the coloring, but this one came out nice just in gray tones.
